Advancing Africa's Digital Transformation:
Inspiring Action. Accelerating Growth. Amplifying Impact.
Globally, digital transformation has been a key driver of economic progress. In 2016, the global digital economy was valued at approximately $11.5 trillion, accounting for 15.5% of the world's GDP, with projections indicating it could reach 25% by 2026.
Additionally, in 2020, global e-commerce alone was estimated to be worth over $3.5trillion. Contextually, research indicates thatAfrica receives approximately $100 billion annually in diaspora remittances—an amount exceeding both Official Development Assistance (ODA) and Foreign DirectInvestment (FDI). These figures highlight the transformative power of digital technologies in boosting economies and enhancing trade, financial inclusion, and cross-border activities. Despite its vast resources, Africa is yet to fully capitalize on these opportunities. The financial inflow withinAfrica remains underutilized due to fragmented financial systems and limited digital infrastructure. Addressing these and related challenges is therefore imperative to unlock significant economic potential.
The Forward Africa Leaders Symposium 2024 organized by Convene Africa in collaboration with support from Development Bank Ghana, AfricaSoft Power, ABAN and AfBC brought together leaders from the digital and financial sectors to elevate the conversations, share best practices and establish collaborations to drive Africa’s digital economic integration.
